Simon Bendry

Simon is the Programme Driector for the UCL Institute of Education’s First World War Centenary Battlefield Tours Programme, after spending three years as one of the national education coordinators. He is responsible for the strategic and operational development of the programme’s educational vision and pedagogical approach. He leads our teams, guides the development of new learning resources, and directs our range of professional development and battlefield tour programmes.

Before joining the UCL IOE in January 2014, Simon was Head of Humanities in a large secondary school in Somerset. Simon has a real passion for the First World War and has, during 13 years as a classroom teacher, developed extensive knowledge and experience of teaching the subject from KS3 to A Level.

Simon is also an experienced battlefield guide and tour party leader who has been taking students to the battlefields of the Western Front for the past 20 years. He is a member of the British Commission for Military History.
