David Rich

David is the National Education Coordinator for the UCL Institute of Education’s First World War Centenary Battlefield Tours Programme.

He leads on the English Literature themed battlefield tours and the development of associated teaching and learning materials. He provides CPD sessions and seminars for English teachers at a number of events around the country.

David is responsible for developing the post-tour ‘Legacy110’ element of the programme, culminating each year in the organising of the prestigious Legacy 110 National Awards.

He is also responsible for leading and developing the Specialist Leader's CPD programme.

An area of particular interest is the development of resources and activities, for both site visits and the classroom, which bridge the gap between teaching the events of a conflict 100 years ago, including the fragile peace of 1918/19, and the contribution that such learning can make to the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of students as global citizens.

Before joining the UCL IOE in January 2017, David was a Deputy Head in a large secondary school in West London. David is also an experienced battlefield tour party leader who has been taking students to the battlefields of the Western Front for over twenty years. He continues to enjoy leading a tours each year on the Centenary Battlefield Tours Programme.
